A miniature gold plated silver frame rests on a small shelf and displays a tiny color photograph. A cast salt frame with sheet lead matting holds a 16x20 print of the same image under glass. The image is of my son's placenta kept frozen since his birth in 1995. Both portraits reflect my effort to preserve the experience of labor and the memory of new birth.
